May 2021 COVID-19 Update

Dear Sailors (and those who support our sailors),

I don't need to explain to you the current situation in Nova Scotia. We are in the middle of a storm, and we are unsure how long it will last. We can see some breaks in the storm clouds - rays of light in the distance - that give us hope that this too shall pass.

The board at HSC is committed to the safety of our sailors. We will do everything we can to ensure that sails are set and boats depart our docks this summer, but only if it is safe to do so. I am ever optimistic that by July 1st we will be ready for our learn to sail programs to run. It just would not be summer in Hubbards without the shouting and laughter of our athletes learning life skills through sailing.

Sailing is one of the few activities still allowed under current restrictions. Although learn to sail programs are not, with vaccines and numbers reducing, we are hopeful that programming will happen. The board and our COVID-19 committee continue to watch developments and prepare to react accordingly. As we did last year, we will communicate with you anytime we have more info. We made it work last summer, we are optimistic we can do it again this summer.

In the meantime, furl your sails, clear your decks, set your anchor, and ride out the storm. I know that there are sunny days ahead.

Bill Doane
